Tub Refinishing Process

  1. Upon arrival, our equipment is setup on drop cloths. The bathtub or other surface being reglazed is cleaned and etched with sandpaper or a mild acid (advances in primer technology no longer requires heavy acid etching which can harm plumbing lines). We must also remove any caulk before we spray, so we would kindly ask that you refrain from applying any prior to our arrival.
  2. We'll remove or tape over any appropriate hardware. If you already plan on replacing the hardware, it's best to have it  removed prior to our arrival.
  3. Areas not being sprayed such as walls, windows and floors are taped off to protect against over-spray (we take extra care during this process).
  4. We set up proper ventilation either from a window in the bathroom or by using a long vent tube which terminates to the exterior of the building. We cannot use windows which are too small or located directly over a bathtub being refinished.
  5. Protective suits are donned by our technicians to minimize debris transferring from our clothing to your finish. Additionally, protecting our uniform (comprised of a shirt with logo) from over-spray keeps the boss happy.
  6. Chemicals are mixed and two to three coats of primer are applied using HVLP technology.
  7. After fifteen minutes, two to three coats of topcoat are applied leaving a total of four to six coats. Some companies claim the bathtub refinishing process requires many more coats than this.  If they are being honest, they're not following any manufacturers' recommendations we're aware of and are likely using an inferior product and/or poor spray technique. If we are applying a multistone to floors or countertops, an additional protective clear coat is applied.
  8. Most, if not all, paper and tape are removed. We cannot always remove every bit for fear of debris landing on the newly refinished surface. In this case it should remain on for 24 hrs, then slowly removed by you and discarded.
  9. All our equipment is packed up and we will leave you with an invoice containing information on care and maintenance.
  10. After 24 hours and before you use your tub, you should re-apply any caulk that was missing or removed during the refinishing process. Additionally, any hardware we removed should be reinstalled carefully by you. Talon may offer these services at an additional cost.

THAT'S IT! YOUR BATHTUB CAN BE USED 24 HOURS AFTER THE LAST COAT IS APPLIED (additional time of 48hrs will be needed for floor tile and countertops).
